The money requested will be used to replenish the local food pantry in Cheyenne Wells when the supplies are running low throughout the year. Also, every year we run the Cheyenne County Angel Tree Program that is for any families or individuals that could use help around the holiday season. The Angel Tree Program gives food baskets, along with gifts for the children. We have ranged from helping 30-55 families a year. The money would be used to help fill the void where needed, whether it be food for the food baskets, or clothes and toys for the kids. This is a county wide program, so includes Arapahoe, Cheyenne Wells, Kit Carson and Wild Horse.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church Food Pantry is located in the Sacred Heart Church and services Cheyenne County for anyone in need of food items. We work closely with Cheyenne County Department of Human
Services, and they let families know we are available any time needed. Years ago, we took over the Cheyenne County Angel Tree Program and run it through the church in conjunction with Cheyenne County DHS. Applications are filled out and their information is released to our program. Paper Angels are filled out per family, per child and dispersed to numerous churches and organizations throughout the
county who help purchase gifts for the children. Each family receives a food basket, and wrapped gifts for their children. Over the years, the program has really grown, and our outreach has become widespread throughout the county. We partner with both the Cheyenne Wells and Kit Carson Schools and their organizations help run food and toy drives and all items donated go towards our program. All of the work done by this organization is volunteer based and everything is fully donated.
Our organization will benefit tremendously from this sponsorship. This will allow us to fill in where needed, either in stocking the food pantry shelves or purchasing items for our food baskets or gifts for children during the holiday season. The impact this will have on the community is truly remarkable. There is nothing quite like the feeling of watching the county come together for the common good of families in their community and giving back to those in need of a little extra help throughout the year. This program has brought the county together. Whether it be the church or school organizations, or just
people in the community, this has become a common goal of the organizations to support our food pantry and Angel Tree Program. As our need in the community has grown, so has the need for more supplies to be able to make this program work, so with this sponsorship we will be able to continue our work for another year. We help families throughout Cheyenne County, CO (Arapahoe, Cheyenne Wells,
Kit Carson, and Wild Horse).
